Type Locality and Naming

The Quguo Formation was named by Jin Gou in 1993. The lectoholostratotype is Chaxiangjiede section (N34°55′00″, E92°29′00″), Zhiduo County, Qinghai Province.


Lithology and Thickness

Purplish-red, grayish-purple, gray or grayish-white conglomerate, gravelly sandstone, sandstone with siltstone and mudstone, locally with siderite. The thickness ranges from 130 m to 1000 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The Quguo Formation unconformably overlies the Wudaoliang Gr, the Chabaoma Gr or other older group.

Upper contact

The Quguo Formation is unconformably overlaid by the Qiangtang Fm.

Regional extent

Golmud City and Zhiduo County, Qinghai Province (Tanggula Mountain to Bayankala mountain area).

Fossils

The Quguo Formation contains Ostracods, Charophytes, gastropods and pollen fossils. The abundant Charophtyes includes Cyprinotus, Eucypris and so on.
